Syria {Damascus}
A square stone paste tile painted in underglaze cobalt blue, turquoise, manganese purple and green. Sprays of tulips, carnations, hyacinths and foliage surround a central lotus seated in a cluster of blue leaves, the whole design against a milky white ground.
16th century.
10.5 x 10.25 in. {26.6 x 26 cm.}
Condition: Repaired. One break and minor edge chipping.
