Part II Tile 20. Egypt or Syria. A square stone paste tile freely painted in underglaze pale blue. Two cusped cartouches occupy the centre that contain composite leafed palmettes are reserved in white against two mirror image cartouches. A detailed fish scale design makes up the background. A freely drawn meandering arabesque border in white, outlined in pale blue forms the border. Early 15th century. 8.6 x 9.1 in. {21.6 x 23.1 cm}. Condition: Intact. Slight glaze crackle. |
